Operation Safe Return, an Alabama Cold Case Advocacy project

Operation Safe Return

An Alabama Cold Case Advocacy Project

A statewide effort to bring Alabama’s missing children and adults home.

Operation Safe Return is a project by Alabama Cold Case Advocacy aimed at ensuring no missing person is forgotten and no family feels alone in their search for answers. This initiative raises awareness about missing individuals through billboards placed around the state, highlighting their stories and encouraging the public to provide any helpful information. It connects families with resources and support, while also engaging the community to participate in the pursuit of truth and justice. Through these efforts, Operation Safe Return keeps each case in public view, emphasizing the stories of those who have disappeared and the need for closure among their loved ones.

What Is Operation Safe Return?

Operation Safe Return was created with one heartfelt purpose: to make sure no missing person is overlooked or left without the visibility they deserve. Across Alabama, families are waiting for answers about children and vulnerable adults who have disappeared. This initiative places verified missing person cases on billboards across the state so that eyes stay open, conversations continue, and hope remains visible.

The program focuses on missing children, vulnerable adults, and individuals at risk of exploitation or trafficking. Each case is handled with great care. Every billboard is designed to support investigators and families who are still waiting for answers.

Why Operation Safe Return Matters

When someone disappears, a family’s world changes in an instant. As time passes, attention can fade. Operation Safe Return helps ensure visibility stays strong and reminds communities that someone is still missing and still deeply loved.

Public visibility also plays an important role in preventing exploitation and trafficking. Many missing individuals, especially children and vulnerable adults, face elevated risks of harm. Operation Safe Return increases community awareness. It encourages people to speak up when something feels wrong, helping strengthen safety efforts statewide. It supports the broader work of protecting those who are at risk.

Billboards can:

  • Spark new information
  • Renew attention for cases that have grown quiet
  • Protect vulnerable individuals who may be in danger
  • Give families meaningful public recognition and encouragement
  • Support active investigations through increased visibility

Even a few seconds of awareness can bring a memory back. It can connect a detail or prompt a call that changes everything.

How Operation Safe Return Works

Case Submission

Alabama Cold Case Advocacy works directly with the investigating agency for each case. No case is ever displayed without verification and approval.

Design

We create each billboard at no cost. Designs highlight the person’s photo, essential case details, and the agency contact number. Every layout is clear and easy to recognize.

Billboard Placement

We coordinate placement with participating billboard partners across Alabama. When possible, billboards are placed near the last known location or along major travel routes connected to the case.

Tip Routing

Billboards feature the investigating agency’s contact number so tips go straight to the right place. Any information sent to Alabama Cold Case Advocacy is forwarded immediately without delay.
