An Army Veteran Lost to an Unsolved Homicide in Mobile, AL

As Memorial Day approaches, Alabama Cold Case Advocacy pauses to honor the memory of Staff Sgt. Quentin Washington, a 35-year-old Army veteran who dedicated nearly 17 years of his life to serving our country. A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Quentin completed multiple tours of duty and was deployed during Operation Desert Storm before transitioning into a role as an Army recruiter, eventually being stationed in Mobile, Alabama.
But Quentin’s life, filled with honor and service, ended tragically on February 1, 2012. That evening, Mobile Police responded to a call at a residence on the 1600 block of Donham Drive. In the garage, officers discovered Quentin with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initially, the incident was treated as a death investigation pending autopsy results. It wasn’t until five years later, in 2017, that the Mobile Police Department publicly identified the case as a homicide and issued a call for the public’s help. A $1,000 reward was offered through CrimeStoppers for any information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible.
Despite this appeal, Quentin’s murder remains unsolved. His family is left with heartbreak and unanswered questions. They describe him as a man of integrity and kindness, and say they cannot fathom why anyone would want to harm him.
This Memorial Day, we ask you to remember Quentin Washington—not just for his military service, but for the justice he still deserves. If you have any information, please come forward. Let’s honor his memory by helping bring the truth to light.
