In a significant breakthrough, Heflin Police Department made a stunning announcement on June 30, 2023: 39-year-old Lewis Ladon Spivey had been arrested for the heinous murders of Monica and Dalton Rollins. After his release from a Florida Prison, where he’d been serving a 15-year sentence for unrelated charges, Capt. Scott Bonner and Chief Ross McGlaughn swiftly took Spivey into custody.
The wheels of justice were set in motion as a bond hearing was convened on June 29, 2023, in accordance with Alabama § 15-13-3. Deliberating the case, the Court found that the criteria for invoking Aniah’s Law had been unequivocally met, resulting in Spivey’s continued pretrial confinement without any possibility of bond.
The turning point arrived when Spivey provided investigators with a comprehensive and chilling confession. He detailed the grim events that unfolded in September of 2002, accepting sole responsibility for the heart-wrenching murders of Dalton and Monica.
In light of this significant development, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Capt. Bonner, the Heflin Police Department, and all of the other agencies and individuals involved. Their unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of justice for Monica, Dalton and their grieving family have not gone unnoticed. May this news serve as a beacon of hope for families still waiting, reminding them that it’s never too late for justice to be served.
